Another big week in the Spanish La Liga with games starting from Friday 19th January through till Monday 22nd January – our football trading expert take a look at the best of the action.
Friday 19th January 2018
Getafe v Athletic Bilbao
Not a game I was looking to get involved in but there is quite a strong stat for those of you who like that. Bilbao have won six of the last seven meetings today of these two, the meeting earlier this season ended 0-0. They have also won on their last three visits to Getafe. The negative that you need to consider is that Getafe are strong at home and have not conceded in their last four on their own patch. Athletic are also on a fine run, unbeaten in eight with three wins and five draws. They have won two of their last three away. Odds of 2.80 (9/5) are about right so if you are going to have an interest, keep stakes sensible.
Saturday 20th January 2018
Espanyol v Sevilla
Sevilla are turning out to be the disappointment of the season with four defeats and a draw in their last five. They need to get back on track and quickly to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive. They were a little unlucky last week where they should have taken a point but heavy defeats to rivals Betis and Real Madrid recently means they cannot be backed at the prices. Espanyol have picked up and are unbeaten in four but they are finding it difficult to score which makes the game difficult to call. Unders is a possibility at 1.80 (4/5) but you know I rarely play Unders and five of the last seven meetings today here have gone Over. Despite the head to head, Unders looks the call as the last four Espanyol home games have all gone that way.
Sunday 21st January 2018
Real Sociedad v Celta Vigo
On current form this game should have goals and seven of the most recent head to head have gone Over 2.5 goals. Sociedad have been really hit and miss this season and have struggled at home but did lead Barca 2-0 last week before succumbing late on. Celta have been in good nick and are decent on the road, having scored in every game. They have won four times and drew with Barcelona. At the prices I couldn’t put anyone off a small trade on Celta at 4.0 (3/1). The safest option is Over 2.5 goals although the price of 1.57 (4/7) is not the best. Perhaps we can chance waiting fifteen minutes and then step in at a much better price.
Real Madrid v Deportivo La Coruna
As badly as Real are performing at present, this is a match that could kick start their season as they have a fantastic record against Deportivo. They have won the last nine meetings today and thirteen of the last fourteen. It is very difficult to consider backing them at odds of 1.12 (1/8) but they surely cannot be as bad as they were against Villarreal. There is clearly something not right behind the scenes but Depor are poor on the road winning just once this season and only once last season. A couple of correct score options might be the way to go, Depor have scored in six of nine away and in six of their last ten visits here. With Real playing so badly Depor could score so try 3-1 and 4-1 as trading options. You could chance a small Lay of the home side and hope Deportivo score first to trade out and the downside is minimal.
Monday 22nd January 2018
Eibar v Malaga
Eibar are currently on a great run winning six and drawing one of their last eight. Malaga are in freefall losing the last four and have won only three this season. Eibar have won the last two meetings today between the two and should be strong enough to add another three points here at 1.70 (7/10).
