Trading La Liga Sat 17/Sun 18 December
Not a great week last week let’s hope we can click a couple of decent trades before their winter break. It has been a topsy turvey start to the season and as we stand, Real Madrid sit six points clear at the top and look strong. With Gareth Bale to come back they are in a really good position and it is in their hands. Sevilla have surprised even me, their biggest fan, as I thought the sale of Gameiro would cost them any chance of a top four finish but they too are looking good for the top four so long as Europe doesn’t impede their chances. Barcelona will come on strong but Atletico are struggling and perhaps Simeone is putting all his eggs in one basket, Champions League. Villarreal will push these four all the way but may lack strength in depth. At the bottom, Osasuna and Granada are struggling but any three of the bottom eight at present are vulnerable with Deportivo my tip to struggle.
Some tough games this week and Real do not play as they are at the World Club Cup in Doha.
Sporting Gijon v Villarreal
In the last six league meetings today there has not been a draw but that looks a strong possibility here. Gijon are not the best but occasionally get themselves up for a game and they have won three and drawn one at home this season. Villarreal have drawn four and won once this season on the road and are a lot more defensive than at home. I cannot recommend a trade at the prices so perhaps a speculative 1-1 correct score may give you trading opportunities.
Sevilla v Malaga
There is never much between these two, the last 12 meetings today have seen four draws, three Malaga wins and five Sevilla wins. In Seville, the pattern is the same with three home wins two draws and a loss in the last six head to head there. There is no doubt that Sevilla are a better side and should win, especially at home, but Malaga can frustrate big teams, Valencia and Barcelona recent examples. A tough game to call, both teams to score would have been interesting but the price has crashed. A coupel of correct scores to trade could be 2-0 1nd 2-1 or chance Sevilla HT/FT at around 2.25
Barcelona v Espanyol
Barcelona are unbeaten in eight, Espanyol unbeaten in nine so something has to give and it will be the visitors who have not won in the last 14 meetings today. Barcelona have won the last seven at home conceding just once, scoring 22 times. In those 14 meetings today, Barcelona have won eleven and drawn three. Barcelona -2 on the handicap is the shout and if you can get the 1.91 available snap it up.
Athletic Bilbao v Celta de Vigo
Bilbao have a good record against Celta, winning three of the last four meetings today at home and winning five and drawing three of their last eight league meetings today. The obvious thing here is Lay Celta but they are priced far too big so that is out. A better option here is for both teams to score at 1.95 as this has happened in three of the four recent meetings today in Bilbao and both teams have scored in four of Athletic’s last five home games and Celta have scored nine on the road this season.
