Championship England Update
With this being a “second-tier” competition, it is not clear whether the season will be completed, as many countries may look at completing their “Premier” league competition as a priority, should circumstances allow a resumption.
It will be very difficult for the teams in strong positions at present if the season is abandoned, but clearly human life is more important, and football can go on again at any time.
With Leeds and West Brom in the two automatic places, they will be wanting the authorities to grant them promotion, however with nine games left to play, clubs like Fulham and Brentford will rightly argue that they still had a strong chance to secure one of those places. On the other hand, the three clubs in the relegation places would happily take abandonment of the season with no relegation places allocated.
The stats in the table above don’t really give us anything concrete to go on if we do get a resumption, apart from the fact that this league does have a higher draw % than all bar the Spanish La Liga.
That fits in with popular thinking that this is a very tough league and points are hard fought. A couple of statistics going forward are that 43% of goals are scored in the first half and 57% in the second half with 13% of goals in the first fifteen minutes of a game and 23% of goals in the last fifteen minutes.

A few stats from the season so far in six of the best leagues in Europe and most of the stats will probably be as you would expect. It is no surprise that the lowest amount of average goals and the least percentage of Over 2.5 and Over 3.5 goals are in France and Spain, with the most goals clearly in the Bundesliga in Germany.
One stat that does stand out, that I have been aware of for many years, is the low % of away wins in La Liga in Spain, with even the top sides often struggling to win on the road.
Two stats that were not immediately obvious to me, were the high % of away wins in Serie A in Italy and the average goals per game there being nearly 3, which indicates that Italian football is not the negative game it was in the past. Obviously, these stats should only be used as a guideline, but they can be useful when deciding whether something is value.
