As another Premier League season looms it’s not only the top of the table betting that attracts interest from football betting punter, but also the relegation odds.
Last season (2017-18) we saw Swansea, Stoke and West Bromwich all relegated from the English top-flight – but who are the contenders to face the drop ahead of the 2018-19 season?
Cardiff, Wolves and Fulham were the three promoted sides from the Championship last season so it’s no shock to see two of this trio as the favourites in the Premier League 2018-19 relegation betting.
The Bluebirds are the clear favourites at 1.72 before a ball has been kicked to return to the Championship after just one season in the Premier League, while Fulham are on offer at 2.87.
Huddersfield, who finished 16th in the league last season are second favourites to go down at 2.20, while the layers feel that Wolves will have enough to survive as they are on offer at 8.00 – with 9 sides priced lower than them!
Looking at the more established sides to be relegated, we’ve Watford, who finished 14th last season with 41 points, next best in the market at 3.00. Brighton are the same price at 3.00 – the Seagulls managed to survive their first season in the top-flight by finishing 15th (40 points) and proved a hard side to beat at home, recording 7 of their 9 victories in front of their home fans – but will it be more of the same this season?
Next up we’ve Burnley at 5.00 – a slightly surprising price considering they managed to finish 7th in the league on 54 points. They won 7 games at home and 7 away and proved a hard side to beat. Yes, they will have the added distraction of European football this season but it’s hard to see them being relegated based on what we saw last season from them.
Bournemouth are next at 6.00 in the relegation betting. The Cherries finished 12th last season with 44 points, while Crystal Palace are next best at 6.50. The Eagles had a terrible start to the season but after former England boss, Roy Hodgson came in to take over he turned things around and the South London side eventually finished a respectable 11th with 44 points. A lot will depend if their star player – Wilfried Zaha – leaves. If he does, then the Eagles could be in trouble as he’ll be a tough player to replace. If he stays on for another season, it’s hard to see the Eagles going down.
Newcastle at 7.00 and West Ham at 8.00 might appeal, but the Hammers have spent a lot over the summer and should have enough to remain safe. However, the value might be Southampton at 8.00. The Saints only just survived last term with 36 points in 17th (4th from bottom) and recorded only 4 wins at home and 3 wins away all season.
