Round Up
A great weekend on the football, capped off with a deserved late winner for Barcelona at Real Madrid. It was a fantastic match that had a bit of everything and then the drama of Messi’s late strike. We will just look at a couple of midweek games that still have plenty of meaning for at least one of the teams involved. Barcelona should have no trouble beating Osasuna and Real have such a good record against Deportivo, won eight of last nine, that what at first looks a tad tricky, should be another comfortable three points. If they suffer a downside after losing to Barca you may want to consider a small Lay of Real @ 1.40 and get out if Depor score first. Personally I will leave it alone though. Leganes need to win at home to Las Palmas but at odds on they are poor value and of the other games, Atletico should be too strong for Villarreal, one note is that seven of the last eight meetings today were Under 2.5 goals, six of those eight were Under 1.5 goals, so don’t expect a cracker!
Tues 25th April
18.30 Sporting Gijon v Espanyol
It is a real risk to bet a team as poor as Gijon, but Espanyol cannot reasonably expect to get European football even though it is still mathematically possible. Gijon must win and have given themselves a fighting chance of staying up by scoring two late goals at Osasuna to gain a valuable point. Three points here is an absolute must and would put them within a point of Leganes, at least for 24 hours. Games between these two often produce goals, the last five meetings today have gone Over 2.5 goals. If you don’t fancy chancing Sporting at around 6/5 (2.20) then the other option is Over 2.5 goals at around Evs (2.00) giving you a few more options. Espanyol have won just one of their last six away so the chance is there for the home side even though they have won only four of sixteen at home. The thing in their favour is that they score goals, in thirteen of sixteen at home, and if Espanyol are not at it 100% then Sporting can strike. Sporting Gijon to win.
Wed 26th April
19.30 Valencia v Real Sociedad
A must win game for the visitors in their quest for Europa League football and I think they can win, particularly if Valencia are on their summer holidays already. At Malaga last week they were fairly competitive until they went behind. If Sociedad can get the first goal we may see a comfortable victory. They have won on four of their last five visits to the Mestalla and have won eight times on the road this season with no draws. They must take the game to Valencia early on and the early quotes of 9/5 (2.80) are likely to disappear but 17/10 (2.70) is perfectly acceptable. They have won away by 2-0 four times this season and that has to be worth a small stake too at 16/1. Real Sociedad to win and also the small correct score.
