Saturday 8th September
Real Madrid v Levante
The head to head in Madrid reads 3-0, 2-0, 3-0, 5-1, 4-2 and 2-0 and things don’t look good for the visitors. Real have won the last nine meetings today and this should easily be number ten, despite being held 2-2 by Valencia in their last home game. Zidane is still not sure of his best team, remarkable for a club that won the Champions League and La Liga last season, so guessing his formation and personnel is difficult. No bet but don’t be surprised if they finally cut loose and bang in plenty of goals.
Valencia v Atletico Madrid
This could potentially be a cracker on the form shown by both so far this season. Atletico destroyed Las Palmas last time even without Griezmann and they have dominated this fixture recently, winning the last four. Valencia nearly stunned Real in Madrid but will have been happy with the point and look a much improved side this season and we should get an idea of where both sides are at. Atletico have won on three of their last five visits to The Mestalla but I’m not sure they should be 2.10 (11/10) and Valencia can at least get a draw. One option is to Lay Atletico, which is dangerous based on their performance in Gran Canaria but I prefer to take a chance on Laying 0-0 in the half time correct score market which is around 2.80 (9/5) and hope for an early strike.
Barcelona v Espanyol
Not much chance for the away side in this local derby according to the stats. Barcelona have won ten and drawn two of the last twelve head to head, winning all six at home by 4-1, 5-0, 5-1, 1-0, 4-0 and 4-0. They have not looked back to their best yet but have won both this season’s games by 2-0 and cannot sensibly be opposed here. The Over 3.5 goals is available at around 2.00 (Evs) and that looks a fair option if you need to get involved.
Sevilla v Eibar
This looks a game for Under the goals as in six meetings today at this level, five were Under. Sevilla won three and three draws so shouldn’t lose but they have not looked in top form yet and Eibar will be a test. Both Sevilla games and both Eibar games this season have been Under and that must be the way to go if you like that market. It is available at 2.10 (11/10) and could be a trading option.
Sunday 10th September
Villarreal v Real Betis
Villarreal have made a shocking start to the season and that should give Betis hope of a result here. This is another fixture that is generally pretty drab and seven of the last eight head to head have been Under 2.5 goals currently priced at 1.73 (8/11). Villarreal won three, Betis won two and there were three draws in those eight games and this is just too hard to call. If Villarreal come back to form they will win but I couldn’t take odds on about that happening and those wishing to play, but not on Unders could try trading two correct scores, 1-1 at 7.00 (6/1) and 1-0 at 8.00 (7/1).
Deportivo v Real Sociedad
Sociedad sit top of the table and look to have a new attacking approach with a 3-2 win at Celta and a first half thrashing of Villarreal. If they keep up that level of football they could get all three points here and are certainly worth considering at the prices. The one nagging doubt is that these two often play a draw, five of the last eight meetings today ended level. Of those eight games, six were Under 2.5 goals but in the games played this season by the two, all four games were Over 2.5 goals. I have to go with current form and visual impression of Sociedad and back them to win at 2.50 (6/4)
