Selected English Championship Saturday 14th January
12.00 Bristol City v Cardiff
In ten recent head to head, there has been just one drawn match. Eight of the ten games were Over 2.5 goals and nine out of ten had a first half goal. Bristol have lost four of their last five at home and Cardiff have lost two of their last five away, drawing the last two. The safest play looks to be either Lay 0-0 in the HT correct score market or play the Over goals with slight preference for the former.
15.00 Sheff Wed v Huddersfield
The games between these two are usually hard fought and tight. In eight recent head to head Wednesday have won four, Huddersfield once and three draws. An interesting stat is that in six of the eight, there were no first half goals. Sheff Wed are unbeaten in four at home, three wins and Huddersfield are unbeaten in four away, winning the last three. Both sides are in great form with Wednesday unbeaten in five and Huddersfield unbeaten in six. Something has to give and as these stats suggest, it should be a quiet first half. Betting the draw at half-time is a possible with a small stake on 0-0.
15.00 Ipswich v Blackburn
These are two sides who are struggling, but who have both shown that they have ability. In nine recent head to head there have been no away wins with six homes and three draws. Seven of the nine were Under 2.5 goals so don’t expect fireworks here and the three points will be like gold to both sides. Blackburn are too big a price to Lay so the only other options are to trade a couple of correct scores, possibly 1-0 and 1-1, or bet the Unders.
15.00 Birmingham v Nottm Forest
The last ten head to head have seen six Over 2.5 goals and four Under 2.5 goals. The games are generally close with three wins for Birmingham, four for Forest and three draws in those ten. The pattern is very similar for games at St. Andrews. The problem with these two is lack of form, Forest have not won in six and Birmingham not won in four so who can break out and win? One fact that did stand out was that in Birmingham’s last four home games and Forest’s last four away matches, all have gone Over 2.5 goals. Bet the Overs and hope that the poor defending continues.
