English Championship Play-off semi-final second leg
Tuesday 16th May 7.45 kick off
Sheffield Wednesday v Huddersfield
The first leg petered out into a 0-0 draw after a promising opening period from home side Huddersfield. For all their possession, Huddersfield didn’t seriously threaten the Wednesday goal and things will be different here at Hillsborough. Wednesday looked like they had gone to Huddersfield not to lose rather than to win.
In the last five head to head at Hillsborough, Wednesday won the last two but before that was a draw and two Huddersfield wins. Wednesday won this fixture 2-0 in January. At home they won 15, drew 2 and lost 6 scoring in 20 games and keeping 8 clean sheets. Huddersfield away from home won 10, drew 4 and lost 9 scoring in 16 and keeping 6 clean sheets.
What this game needs is an early goal and it could really open up but that is not guaranteed. A really tough call this, I have backed Sheff Wed for promotion but although I still think they will win, I’m not sure they will do it in 90 minutes. Early quotes of around EVS (2.00) do not jump out as value and neither do the odds on Wednesday to qualify of 4/7 (1.57). So what do we do? We don’t have to bet as we all know, but I am tempted by both teams to score if we can get EVS (2.00) and most firms have not yet quoted. The game has to be a little more open than the first leg and the bet would have won in five of the last six head to head here. Do not take quotes of odds on but if we can get EVS or better, then it is worth a small stake especially as over 50% of Wednesday home games and over 50% of Huddersfield away games in the regular season saw both teams score. Let’s get an early goal and sit back and cheer the equaliser!
