Probably the standout Premier League game from this midweek’s batch as the champions, Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield.

Both sides are out of the title race and their league focus will now be to finish in the top four. Chelsea have steadied the ship after Frank Lampard’s exit and start these midweek games with 44 points, with Liverpool just one point behind them on 43.

Therefore, with just a point separating the sides, a win for either would be huge in the race for a ‘top four’ slot, with things certainly getting very tight between the sides in fourth and tenth – at the start of this midweek we’ve seven sides separated by just 8 points (4^th to 10^th).

Back to the Liverpool v Chelsea game and the match betting suggests a home win, with Liverpool on offer at 2.20, the Draw 3.60 and Chelsea 3.10, but it’s a tight market.

Last season, you feel Liverpool would have been odds-on in this game, but with the Reds looking a shadow of the side they were last term and a continued string of big-name injuries, then this will certainly make Chelsea players here.

The sides met at Stamford Bridge earlier this season and that ended Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool, so the Blues will be looking at getting some revenge here, while this repeat fixture last term ended in a comfortable 5-3 home win for Klopp’s Liverpool.

In fact, Liverpool have won their last four league games over Chelsea and are unbeaten in the last five repeat fixtures – you can back Liverpool/Draw in the ‘Double Chance’ market at 1.36 if you like taking the short odds.

However, the favoured scoreline recently when the sides meet has been 1-1. Three of the last 5 clashes have ended this way, so the 7.50 on another 1-1 stalemate is sure to tempt punters in.

We also saw a RED CARD (Chelsea) in this season’s meeting between the sides, so there may be some boil-over from that.

There is also talk of Diogo Jota nearing his return to the Liverpool first team, so at 5.50 (1^st) or 2.30 (anytime) he’s another to look out for on the team sheet.

Looking at Chelsea, Timo Werner is 7.50 (1^st) or 3.00 (anytime), with Giroud 6.00 (1^st) or 2.50 (anytime) and Abraham 6.50 (1^st) or 2.62 (anytime) – again, always see if they are figuring in the starting 11 before getting involved.

In summary, it’s a game that neither side can really afford to give the full points to the other, so the draw at 3.60 certainly looks a decent option – especially with both teams having enough firepower.

However, the slightly safer call is to side with ‘both teams to score’ at 1.61. This bet has paid out in 77% of the last 13 meetings today between the sides.
