Another big week in the Spanish La Liga with games starting from Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd April 2018 – our football trading expert take a look at the best of the action.
We are at that time of year when some teams need to win and others don’t so we need to tread a little more carefully and also be aware that bookmakers tend to over react when teams need to win. We can sometimes take advantage as contrary to popular belief, teams with nothing to play for, often try just as hard with new contracts, transfers etc to think of.
Happy Trading!
Saturday 21st April – Copa Del Rey Final – Wanda Stadium Madrid
We do not normally bother with the cup competition but this may be a decent final. On form there is only one winner with Barcelona, the winners for the last three seasons sure to be strong favourites. Sevilla have drawn four of their last six, including a 2-2 draw with Barcelona. Barcelona have won three and drawn two of their last six but have not been at their very best and were knocked out of the Champions League by Roma. Sevilla last won this trophy in 2009-2010 and were beaten finalists, by Barcelona, in 2015-2016, after extra-time. It is possible that Sevilla come out of the blocks firing and as in the league game, could score first. I don’t want Barca at 1.50 and would prefer to trade around 1-1 and 2-2 in the correct score market.
Sunday 22nd April 2018
Girona v Espanyol
These two have both lost three of their last four and with both probably nothing to play for, it could be argued that we should leave the game alone. Girona still have an outside chance of Europa League football next season and because of that I think they are worth chancing. It would be a huge achievement for such a small club but on home form they deserve it. Espanyol are probably safe but will surely pick up a couple of points here and there and with Girona having won the reverse fixture in Barcelona, I can see them winning again at 2.10.
Malaga v Real Sociedad
Malaga are the sort of side who once they are relegated, they will start winning and this is just the sort of fixture they could win. Sociedad are safe in mid table and if they are not fully focused, could be vulnerable. Malaga have won only one of ten at home and Sociedad lost just one of their last four away. On the head to head, the last three meetings today in Malaga have seen one win each and a draw. I am not interested in betting Sociedad at a shade of odds on but a small play of Malaga at 4.00 with a view to trading may pay off.
Atletico Madrid v Real Betis
Atletico’s strong home form should continue here but Betis are in top form and will give it a go. Atleti have won eight and drawn two of the last ten head to head and are unbeaten at home. They look to be bankers at 1.50 but just a word of caution that Betis have won five of their last six on the road. At 8.00 they are tempting but Atletico are strong and it is probably a no play for me. If forced I would trade 1-0 and 2-0 Atletico Madrid.
