La Liga continues this weekend and, as always, we’ve got the best of the action covered.
Friday 8th March 2019
Athletic Bilbao v Espanyol
Espanyol have had a recovery of late but still struggle away from home, winning just once all season but managing five draws. Bilbao are hard to beat at home but have drawn six of thirteen, so this could become cagey and both may settle for a point late on, rather than losing. The last five head to head were all Under 2.5 goals and that is clear favourite with the bookmakers and with Bilbao unbeaten in their last eight at home, the recommendation is trading correct scores 1-0 and 1-1.
Saturday 9th March 2019
Alaves v Eibar
A game that is more down to current form as past stats tell us very little. Eibar have been going well but they are stronger at home with just one away win all season. Alaves have lost only once at home but have drawn five. The home side might be worth chancing at 2.50 with a view to trading if they lead.
Atletico Madrid v Leganes
Atletico continue to chase Barca for the title and a lot will depend on whether they can beat them in the Camp Nou in April. This should be another grind out win, score and then defend the lead and the two recent head to head at Atletico Madrid ended 4-0 and 2-0. Atletico to win to Nil at 2.00.
Barcelona v Rayo Vallecano
Barcelona march on after ending Real’s title challenge and only Atletico can now deny them the title. It is impossible to oppose them here even at 1.16 as they have won the last eleven head to head. Seven of those were Over 4.5 goals with recent home games ending 5-2, 6-1, 6-0, 3-1 and 4-0. Over 4.5 goals is 3.00 which is possible but far too short, so it may well be best to leave the game alone or play a couple of silly correct scores like 5-1 and 6-1.
Sunday 10th March 2019
Celta Vigo v Real Betis
Betis are struggling but take on a Celta side that have lost eight of their last ten. Four of the last five head to head were Over 2.5 goals and four of the last seven meetings today ended in draws. In Vigo the last four meetings today ended 3-2, 0-1, 1-1 and 4-2. This is the type of game Betis will win so I couldn’t put off anyone fancying them for a small stake at 3.10 but both teams to score at 1.91 appeals as better value.
Girona v Valencia
Only three recent meetings today at this level with two wins for Valencia and one for Girona, two were Under and one Over so current form looks key. Valencia are unbeaten in eight with five of those draws but Girona have picked up after losing four on the bounce, they have won two and drawn one, including beating Real in Madrid. Valencia are half tempting at 2.40 but a better option could be to Lay Girona at 3.20 keeping the draw on side.
Sevilla v Real Sociedad
Sevilla have lost three in succession and six of their last eight and have dropped out of the Champions League spots. They have won three of their last five head to head in Seville with four of the five games being Under 2.5 goals. Sociedad were beaten by Atletico last week but played reasonably well and it was their first loss in nine games. I cannot have Sevilla at 1.66 preferring to Lay that price as a trading option.
Valladolid v Real Madrid
Real Madrid at 1.44 away from home, in their current form? No thanks and although they may win, it has to be worth a small Lay. Real won 2-0 in the Bernabeu in November but drew 1-1 on their last visit to Valladolid and despite the home side being out of form, they will be up for this. Yes, Real could win 5-0, but they have problems and may concentrate on the Champions league and therefore could be vulnerable at such a short price.
Levante v Villarreal
Levante would love to heap further pressure on their local rivals and three points would see them potentially move ten points clear of the bottom three, so they have a huge incentive. In reality there is little between the two sides, but Levante have won the last two head to head at home by 1-0. Under 2.5 goals may be the call here at 2.00.
