Another big week in the Spanish La Liga with games starting from Saturday 3rd through till Sunday 4th March 2018 – our football trading expert take a look at the best of the action.
Happy Trading!
Saturday 3rd March 2018
Villarreal v Girona
There has been only one previous meeting at this level, with Villarreal winning 2-1 in Girona. Villarreal suffered another reverse in midweek losing at Eibar whilst Girona continued their fine season with a win at home to Celta Vigo. Generally, Villarreal’s home form has kept them close to a European place and they face a tough task here as Girona themselves dream of Europe. Girona have lost just five of thirteen away this season but only average one goal in each away game. The obvious call here is Under 2.5 goals but a case can be made for a narrow Villarreal victory at 1.83 (5/6) and I suggest if you go that way you trade for your stake back if the home side lead.
Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao
Sevilla managed a much needed win away at Malaga in midweek but in all fairness they should be winning there. Bilbao drew at home to Valencia, their fifth draw in eight games. If Sevilla could get back to their early season form they would win this but they have twice been thumped in recent weeks, Atletico by 5-2 and Eibar by 5-1. I cannot recommend them at 1.66 (4/6) but I do think they may win as they have scored in all home games bar one. They have beaten Bilbao at home to Nil in the last three meetings today so I would chance trading the correct scores 1-0 and 2-0.
Sunday 4th March 2018
Barcelona v Atletico Madrid
Games between these two are usually tight and despite Barcelona wining three of the last five meetings today at home, Atletico have managed two 1-1 draws and scored in all five games. Barcelona are unbeaten and Atletico have lost just once. Barcelona have drawn two of their last four including a 0-0 draw with Getafe at home. Atletico have won their last six so arguably are in slightly better form. Many of you will see Barcelona at 1.73 (8/11) as a fair price and it probably is, but they are playing the current second best side in Spain. I prefer Both Teams To Score at 1.80 (4/5) as we know Atletico can score here and Barca are at home.
Valencia v Real Betis
This fixture has produced some crazy scores in the past with Valencia winning 6-3 at Betis earlier in the season. The head to head in Valencia in recent years have finished 2-3, 0-0, 5-0, 3-0 and 4-0. It is probably best to just keep this simple, 65% of Valencia games and 60% of Betis games go Over 2.5 goals and 31% of Valencia games and 48% of Betis games go Over 3.5 goals. At the prices it might be worth chancing Over 3.5 goals, not because it is great value but it should offer good trading opportunities. The strategy would be to wait 20 minutes and hope for no goals. Both sides concede and score much more in the second half than the first half and neither are prolific early on.
