England v Slovakia
For those of you wanting to pile into England at 1.40 (2/5) just take a second to think before you do. Yes they should win and virtually guarantee their place at the finals in Russia, but if they play as badly as they did against Malta then this Slovakia team can test them. Slovakia are unbeaten in their last five group games and narrowly lost the first two, to England by a 90th minute Lallana winner and Slovenia by 1-0, also to a late goal. They will be no pushovers as they have scored thirteen times and conceded just three in those five matches and comfortably saw off Scotland 3-0 at home and Lithuania away. Quotes of 11.00 (10/1) this morning are tempting particularly as England do not really have a settled side and have been far from impressive in this campaign except perhaps their win over Scotland at Wembley. Marek Hamsik and Vladimir Weiss are top class and England will need to play well so the prices quoted appear to be more on past reputation, patriotic money and “The Wembley Factor” than current form. In two recent head to head, England had that 1-0 win in Trnava but the teams also drew 0-0 in France at the Euros in 2016. England will probably win 1-0 or 2-0 with an average performance but I have to Lay them at the prices for a small interest and that keeps the draw on side as if the game is level late on, a point for both would be better than losing.
Lay England for 0.5pt at 1.40 and consider trading out if Slovakia lead or at 70 minutes if still level.
Northern Ireland v Czech Republic
A draw will take Northern Ireland to the play-offs but they must not have that on their minds as they host the Czech Republic who need to win their final three games and hope Northern Ireland don’t get two points from Germany and Norway, for them to clinch that second spot. The Czechs have been all over the place in this campaign and three draws, two of them at home, have probably cost them qualification. Northern Ireland have again been brilliant with five wins and just the one loss, away in Germany and a draw in Prague against today’s visitors. On all current form they should at least not lose but it is hard to back them to win even when you can get 2.80 (9/5) as the nerves will be jangling. The two sides have only met five times in competition and the last three all ended 0-0 which is a real player here. Under 2.5 goals is an obvious shout but is priced accordingly 1.50 (1/2) and offers no value but we can use it to trade using the Racing Traders Software ladders. I cannot resist having a small stake on No Goalscorer at 7.00 (6/1) as this is a better option than 0-0 because with own goals you could still win if the game ended 1-0. The other trade I am keen on and you can use the software, Lay Over 2.5 goals at 2.80 and put a bet in at 6.00 to trade it back for a guaranteed profit. The ladders will show you which price to set your bet at.
