Well three 0-0 draws in the quarter-finals saw only the bookmakers smiling and it looked as though the teams were more scared of losing than trying to win. It means the games became a bit of a lottery but the sides that held their nerve best, won through on penalties. We now have a semi-final that the organisers probably wanted as the final, but it should still be a decent game and the hosts will now fancy their chances of lifting the trophy. The other semi-final could be a lot more open and may see goals.

Brazil v Argentina 01:30
Surprisingly, these two do not meet in competitive games very often, just four meetings today since 2008, but they have played a number of friendlies and Brazil hold the upper hand in recent encounters. In the last nine games, Brazil have won five with one draw, but in the last four competitive games, Brazil have won two with two draws. After the failure at home in the World Cup, Brazil will be desperate to win here, but that may play into Argentina’s hands. Brazil have been heavily backed in the last two days and are now odds on which is no value and despite Argentina not looking at their best, this game should be a lot closer than the betting suggests. It is difficult to make a case for Argentina to win but they may hold Brazil for a long period and possibly force extra-time or even penalties. That makes the draw a trading option at 3.40 with a view to trading out at some point during the second half if they are still level.

Chile v Peru 01:30
Chile now have a great chance of three Copa Americas in succession and they have surprised many people, myself included, with their ageing squad. What they have done is used their experience wisely and are full value for reaching this stage. With three quarter-finals ending 0-0 and all four being Under 2.5 goals, it is difficult to recommend goals, however eight of the last nine matches between these two have gone Over 2.5 goals with Chile winning four of the last five. The ray of light for Peru is that they won the last meeting, a friendly in America six months ago, by 3-0. Chile have lost two in eight whilst Peru have lost five of their last ten. This is a tough one to call with Chile being available at 2.00 which is tempting but I still like that stat on goals and I cannot resist a little interest on Over 2.5 goals at around 2.80 with a view to trading. An early goal would put us in a strong position.
