An interesting start to the Championship season and this week we will try and keep it fairly simple until we have seen the teams in action a little more. – as always, our trading team take a look at the best of the games.
Saturday 11th August 2018
QPR v Sheff Utd
This is a game between two teams who look like struggling, QPR will struggle to score and Sheff Utd must bounce back from two defeats. There is no doubt in my mind that Sheff Utd are a better side than QPR, but they were blown away by three quick goals in midweek and defensively looked poor. QPR do not look to have goals in them but against Sheff Utd they will never have a better chance. I prefer to look at Unders in this game as I can see it ending 0-0 so Under 2.5 goals at around 1.80 (4/5) looks fair.
Derby v Leeds
This TV clash will be looked forward to by many so let’s hope we get a cracker and we could well do. Both sides started with a win, Derby grabbing a late winner at Reading and Leeds stunning Stoke with a well deserved 3-1 victory. On those performances, Leeds look a little over priced at 3.75 (11/4) but do not have a great record at Derby with one win in six visits. Scoring three goals will have done their confidence no harm and I wouldn’t put anyone off Leeds although a safer bet may be to Lay Derby at around 2.00 (Evs). I prefer Both Teams To Score at 1.83 (5/6).
Middlesboro v Birmingham
Boro looked strong in mid-week against Sheff Utd and will be tough to beat at home this season. Birmingham have not won this fixture in eight meetings today and Boro have won three of the last four encounters at home. I would expect Birmingham to be a little defensive on their travels and if Boro get ahead early, they will surely go on to win. I make them good value at 1.75 (3/4) to win the game.
Nottingham Forest v Reading
I liked the way Forest went about their business in both games even though they are lucky that West Brom didn’t manage a late winner. They should be challenging for promotion and look to have goals in them. Reading were a little unlucky against Derby and look more composed than they had looked on paper and may yet surprise a few people. The last three meetings today in Nottingham have seen both teams score and that looks the solid option again here at 2.10 (11/10).
Of the other games, I can find no value in the prices, Swansea had a great win at Sheff Utd but Preston are a tough to beat team and one goal may win this one whilst many will consider Aston Villa bankers following their 3-1 win at Hull but Wigan will not roll over and lie down and I wouldn’t be taking the 1.91 (10/11) unless Jack Grealish stays in which case you will need to be quick as the price will crash. Norwich v West Brom is a game that should produce goals and at 2.10 (11/10) is worth a small investment if you must play but we will get better opportunities throughout the season so keep it simple.
