We are back with more Championship action this weekend. Our trading team take a look at the best of the action.
Friday 31st August 2018
Leeds v Middlesbrough
Top versus second and this should be a cracking start to the weekend with both sides off to flying starts. Both are unbeaten and are being talked about as possible champions even at this early stage. This is a strange fixture in that three of the last four meetings today were Over 2.5 goals nut the three previous meetings today had been Under. The head to head in Leeds shows that the home side have won four and drawn one of the last five meetings today and Bielsa has already talked about making Elland Road a fortress. Immediate thoughts are that Leeds could prove too strong with home advantage but Boro are no mugs and as three of those five Leeds wins ended 2-1, I think both teams to score is the safest option.
Saturday 1st September 2018
Hull v Derby
I have seen an improvement in Derby in the last two games and they look more organised and seem to have settled as a team. There is still a lot of work to do but they have a decent record at Hull, winning on three of their last five visits and one draw. The game was a bore draw last year and that is possible again although Derby have scored in every game so we could see goals. Laying the home side appeals as a decent trade with a view to trading out.
Brentford v Nottm Forest
Forest are unbeaten this season but have drawn four of their five games and just need to finish teams off more clinically. At least they are scoring goals so they will always have a chance. Brentford are a number of experts dark horses and suffered their first loss at Blackburn having started the season well with two wins and two draws. They too are scoring goals and with six of the last eight meetings today overall and three of the last four at home all going Over 2.5 goals that looks a solid option here.
Sheffield Utd v Aston Villa
Sheffield Utd have got better each game and have won their last three and look like they should be in for a good season. This will be a test but Villa haven’t fired yet drawing their last three although they are unbeaten. I think they can up their game quite a bit still so this is a tough one and difficult to find a solid trade. Aston Villa appear a little big at 3.10 and I couldn’t put people off but a Lay of Sheff Utd seems to be a sounder option/
Preston v Bolton
A fixture that has only four recent meetings today despite their being much history between the clubs with Preston winning the two games at Bolton and two 0-0draws at Preston. Bolton have got off to a decent start but they were put in their place by Sheffield Utd last time and away at Preston is a tough game. Preston have lost three of their last four and are on offer at 1.57 which seems quite short and I would rather look at Under 2.5 goals at 1.70 as a little more value.
Sunday 2nd August 2018
Ipswich v Norwich
Always a fiercely fought Derby game and with both sides struggling this season, only one win between them in ten games, the need for three points is vital. That said, a draw for Norwich wouldn’t be a disaster and they have a good record at Portman Road with three wins and two draws on their last five visits. Games tend to be tight and the last six meetings today were all Under 2.5 goals. A Lay of Ipswich or Under 2.5goals look like the most obvious plays here.
