- Also met in the league this season, Villa 7-2 Liverpool
- The last 4 head-to-heads at Villa went OVER 2.5 GOALS
- 6 of the last 7 head-to-heads went OVER 2.5 GOALS
- 4 of the last 6 head-to-heads went OVER 4.5 GOALS
- Liverpool have scored in 7 of their last 8 vs Villa
Going forward when Aston Villa and Liverpool meet there will be a lot of talk of Villa’s shock 7-2 home league win over the Champions, but they will meet again for the first time since that game in the FA Cup this Friday night.
Liverpool will, of course be hoping to put the record straight, and have that league game go down as a freak result, but the last time the sides met in the FA Cup (2015) saw Villa win 2-1.
Team news will also be key here as both sides will have the league down as a much bigger priority and that is probably why Liverpool are on offer in the match betting at a tempting 2.00, with the draw 3.75 and Villa 3.40.
The Reds are also 1.53 to qualify, with Villa 2.37.
A lot has been said about Liverpool’s lacking defenders with big names like Van Dijk and Gomez on the sidelines, but let’s not forget both these players were involved in the 7-2 defeat at Villa earlier this season.
It’s also worth pointing out that in Liverpool’s last three league games against West Brom, Newcastle and Southampton – they’ve only scored ONE goal! They’ve only conceded 2 goals in those three games too, so the point is – is their issues more with their strikers, than their makeshift defenders?
The last four head-to-heads played at Villa have ALL gone OVER 2.5 GOALS, so we do tend to get goals when these two meet at Villa Park, but with Liverpool’s recent lack of scoring form in the league then a word of caution suggested here. You can back Over 2.5 Goals 1.60, or Under 2.5 Goals at 2.30.
In fact, 6 of the last 7 clashes (home and away) saw 3+ goals, while if you want better value then with 4 of the last 6 games seeing Over 4.5 Goals, then you might be tempted in at a much bigger 4.33.
As mentioned, it’s hard to give goalscoring options as there could be a lot of players rested here for both sides, but the likes of Salah (4.00, 1st, 1.72 anytime), who scored two when the sides last met, and Mane (4.33 1st, 1.83) will be popular if playing.
While Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who scored a hat-trick when the teams played last, is 6.50 (1st) and 2.50 (anytime).
Overall, a tricky game to call, but regardless of the team news it’s a match that tends to produce goals. Liverpool will also be keen to put the embarrassment of their last meeting right, so we are happy to stick with the Over 2.5 goals option at 1.60.
JUICESTORM VERDICT: OVER 2.5 GOALS @1.60
