Arsenal v Chelsea – Community Shield Sunday 6th August 2017, 14:00
We all know that when the Community Shield comes around then the start of the new Premier League season is not too far off and that’s exactly where we are this week.
With this game always played out between the winners of last season’s FA Cup and Premier League then we are set for another interesting clash with Arsenal (FA Cup) taking on Chelsea (Premier League).
The match at Wembley is actually a repeat of last season’s FA Cup Final too so we’ve plenty of recent form lines to go on. That game ended 2-1 to Arsenal so the Gunners will head into this all-London game with the slight head-to-head advantage.
The betting suggests otherwise though with Chelsea the match betting favourites at 2.10, with the draw 3.50 and Arsenal 3.30.
Both sides have been busy during the pre-season too so there should be no excuses on the fitness front, but it will also give us a taster on how these sides will perform in the league next season.
Man City are the current favourites in the Premier League outright market at 2.87, with Man Utd next best at 4.33, while despite being the current champions Chelsea are as big as 4.50 – with the next best being Spurs 10.00 and Arsenal at 12.00.
What do the stats say?
The sides met three times last season and with Arsenal winning two, as opposed to Chelsea grabbing one victory then this is another slight edge the Gunners will have going into the game.
Arsenal have also bolstered their squad over the summer with Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette one of the highlights. The Frenchman scored 100 league goals for Lyon in 171 games so his strike-rate of finding the back of the net is decent and looks a top addition to the squad.
Chelsea have a very similar team to last season and really if it’s not broken then why try and fix it. After all, they won the league last season in decent fashion so there is every reason to suggest they are going to be bang there again this term.
In terms of a best bet for this game. The last three head-to-heads went OVER 2.5 GOALS so that at 1.72 will appeal, while Both Teams DIDN’T score in 8 of the last 11 head-to-heads so one (or both) of the sides failing to find the back of the net here at 2.20 with Bet365 looks fair value too.
With just one draw in the last 9 head-to-heads then these sides don’t often end all-square, but with Arsenal having the slightly better recent record when playing Chelsea then backing the Gunners, or the draw, in the ‘Double Chance’ market catches the eye at 1.75.
DOUBLE CHANCE ‘Arsenal/Draw’ @1.75
