As we enter the final stages on the 2016/17 Premier League campaign there is still a lot to be decided, especially at the foot of the table.

Yes, the bottom teams in the Premier League will face a race to stay in one of the richest leagues in the world but with this year’s relegation battle looking as tight as ever then……………. who is your money on to go down?

As we all know it’s the bottom three sides that will face the drop and at this stage it looks between around seven teams that will be battling it out – so let’s take a look at their run-in and try and predict which three will be heading for the Championship.

SUNDERLAND:

Remaining Fixtures Watford (a), Leicester (a), Man Utd (h), West Ham (h), Arsenal (a), Middlesbrough (a), Bournemouth (h), Hull (a), Swansea (h), Chelsea (a)

VERDICT – Some crucial six-pointers on offer and a lot will depend how these games pan out, but with Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea to play too, then it doesn’t look good for the Black Cats. On a plus, any side with Jermain Defoe in has always got a chance!

MIDDLESBROUGH:

Remaining Fixtures Swansea (a), Hull (a), Burnley (h), Arsenal (h), Bournemouth (a), Sunderland (h), Man City (h), Chelsea (a), Southampton (h), Liverpool (a)

VERDICT – One of the reasons’ Boro are where they are in the table is due to their poor away form, plus they’ve also drawn too many games. They are another side that have 3 or 4 potential six-pointers, but Boro have lacked fire-power in front of goal this season and that might ultimately prove their undoing.  Plus, with Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to play this makes life doubly hard. Not looking good!

HULL:

Remaining Fixtures West Ham (h), Middlesbrough (h), Man City (a), Stoke (a), Watford (h), Southampton (a), Sunderland (h), C Palace (a), Tottenham (h)

VERDICT – With a lot more home games still to play then Hull have a chance of getting out of this. Yes, their away for has been desperate, but barring Man City away and Spurs at home on the final day (might be all settled by then), then most of the other games look like they can get something from. They’ve got a chance.

SWANSEA:

Remaining Fixtures Middlesbrough (h), Tottenham (h), West Ham (a), Watford (a), Stoke (h), Man Utd (a), Everton (h), Sunderland (a), West Brom (h)

VERDICT – The Swans seem to either win or lose – they’ve not recorded many draws this season, which you could argue is why they are in this situation. If they’ve only turned 3 or 4 of their loses in to draws then they might be out of trouble. That said, they’ve not got a bad run-in with really only Spurs and Man Utd of the big sides left to play. They will feel they can get something from the others and based on their slightly easier-looking games must have a chance of playing Premier League football next season.

CRYSTAL PALACE:

Remaining Fixtures Chelsea (a), Southampton (a), Arsenal (h), Leicester (h), Liverpool (a), Tottenham (h), Burnley (h), Man City (a), Hull (h), Man Utd (a)

VERDICT – A bit like Swansea, Palace have not drawn many games in the league this season, but on a plus they head into this final section of games on a high after three wins on the spin. However, many will feel that the Eagles have by-far the hardest run-in so they are certainly not in the clear just yet. With the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd to play then life is going to get a lot harder for the South Londoners. If they are to avoid the drop, then with those big-gun sides to play, you feel they must win against the likes of Hull, Burnley, Southampton and Leicester to have a chance. Could be in trouble.

WATFORD:

Remaining Fixtures – Sunderland (h), West Brom (h), Tottenham (a), Swansea (h), Hull (a), Liverpool (h), Leicester (a), Everton (h), Man City (h)

VERDICT – The Glory Hornet Boys should just about be ok. Their home and away form is only average but it’s still a lot better than most of the other sides down the bottom, and with the bulk of their remaining games in front of their own fans then this is an added plus. Yes, Man City, Liverpool and Man City on the last day are still to be played and these won’t be easy games, but – as we say – with a lot of home games left that should see them safe.

BURNLEY:

Remaining Fixtures Tottenham (h), Stoke (h), Middlesbrough (a), Everton (a), Man Utd (h), C Palace (a), West Brom (h), Bournemouth (a), West Ham (h)

VERDICT – A Jekyll and Hyde season as Burnley are a totally different side at home to the one they are away. Their form on the road has been shocking, but it’s their stunning home results that have actually kept them from complete disaster this season and those results have given them a nice platform to end the season. They’ve still got more home games to play than away ones too, so proving they remain a force in front of their home fans then the Clarets should be fine.
