Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona
The champions start their defence of the title with a tough away game at Bilbao, however it is a ground where they have a good recent record winning three and drawing one of the last four games there, and they have lost only once on their last seven trips to Bilbao. One interesting stat about these two is that both the last four meetings today in Bilbao and the last four overall head to head, were all Under 2.5 goals. That always seems risky when Barca are involved but the stats suggest that and 2.10 looks to be a good trading option.

Celta Vigo v Real Madrid
This is a tricky start for Real who really need to get off to a fast start to get the fans onside. They are unbeaten on their last five visits to Vigo, winning four with a 2-2 draw, all five games ended Over 3.5 goals with three of them Over 4.5 goals. In fact, nine of the last ten head to head have gone Over 2.5 goals so we should get plenty of action. We will chance Over 3.5 goals at 2.20.
Leganes v Osasuna
This fixture could be a real six-pointer when the two sides meet in the reverse fixture in April and it will be a remarkable achievement by either side if they are not still involved in a relegation battle at that time. Leganes have been going well in pre-season friendlies and with home advantage they will feel that three points are vital, the more points they can gain against relegation rivals, will determine how quickly they can get safe. Osasuna were impressive last season in winning the Segunda division and this is a perfect start for them in that they are not taking on the big boys and they play a Leganes side who won only once in their last eight games. Lay Leganes at 2.00 as a trading option.
Villarreal v Granada
Five of the last six head to head have been Under 2.5 goals with Villarreal winning four and two draws. In Villarreal the results were 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0. Try correct score trading around 1-0 and 2-0.
Valencia v Real Sociedad
Mixed results in this fixture in recent seasons with two wins apiece and a draw in the last five head to head in Valencia. Sociedad have not won in the last four head to head and both fixtures last season ended Under 2.5 goals. Valencia to win at 1.73 and trade for the stake back if they lead.
Sunday 18th August 2019
Espanyol v Sevilla
Sevilla won on the last two trips to Espanyol, but Espanyol had won the two previous encounters in Barcelona. Sevilla will need to do better on the road than they did last year where they won only five times, and three of those were in their first four away games. Both teams to score at 1.73.
Atletico Madrid v Getafe
Probably the fixture that has the most one-sided statistics of any two Spanish sides. The last four meetings today in Madrid have ended 2-0. The last nine head to head were all won by Atletico Madrid to nil and all were Under 2.5 goals. It is sixteen games, including two Copa games and one friendly, since Getafe scored against Atletico, so with all those stats it is hard to see anything other than an Atletico win to nil at 2.10.

Real Betis v Real Valladolid
Both games last season ended in away wins and that pretty much sums up both sides inconsistencies in the last campaign. Betis have made possibly the best signing in La Liga with Nabil Fekir sure to improve their attacking options. What they need to do is make Estadio Benito Villamarin a fortress and if they do, they can challenge for a European place. Valladolid were the league’s lowest scorers last season and that is an area they must improve on and a lot will rest on the shoulders of young Brazilian Marcos de Sousa brought in from Logrones. With all that. I think that Betis should get off to a winning start and try 1-0 and 2-0 correct scores for trading.
