Even if you have a Betfair account which is registered in the UK (or another country where Betfair is allowed) you may not be able to use it if you go abroad. An example is France, where Betfair used to be allowed, but now is not:
Betfair Customer Services 14 May 10 20:41
On 6 April the French parliament passed a law relating to online gaming which came into effect on the 13th May, 2010. This law prevents us from allowing customers to access http://www.betfair.com and associated sites from France. We are considering our options for the future but in the meantime, as a result of this change in legislation, we can no longer accept bets from France or any of its territories. Please note that this restriction also applies to customers that may have accounts registered in a different location but attempt to use their Betfair account whilst they are visiting France.
Note that if you go to France for a holiday you will not be able to use Betfair.
You will also not be able to use trading software from France, since this requires logging into Betfair.
All of the above also applies to any other country which is blocked by Betfair, for example USA, Germany etc. The list of countries changes frequently, so if in doubt when you are going abroad you should check with Betfair in time to book a Betfair holiday if necessary.
