In the last twelve seasons, two of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have finished first and second in the Spanish La Liga. Barcelona have won eight of those twelve titles, with Real winning three and a single success for Atletico. You must go back to 2003/2004 to find a different winner in Valencia.
As usual it will be hard to look past the big two with Real probably just favoured, however I personally think Koeman is a good appointment for Barcelona as he “gets the club” and with a big overhaul needed, he could be the prefect man at the helm. He will however struggle to get that done quickly, and with Real being more settled, it is more probable that Real will once again take the title. The bookmakers can see only these two in the market, with Atletico next in at 14/1 and Sevilla at 33/1 with 150/1 and upwards all other teams. History tells us that the winner will come from the front three in the market. There is little value to be had in the other markets, although many will feel Real Madrid at 10/11 in what is in all probability a two-horse race, is a decent enough price. Villarreal were impressive in the second half of last season, but they often sell players and it will be better to wait to see their squad if you fancy them for a Top 6 finish. There are currently no relegation markets available, but two sides who could have problems this coming season are Alaves and Eibar and they can be considered if they are decent prices. Both struggled last season and Alaves in particular had a poor end to the season, losing seven of their last nine matches, Cadiz and Huesca might surprise one or two judges and they can be expected to hold their own mid-table, but as with all promoted teams finding goals will be crucial. We still await the third promoted team, but Girona look in prime position and they have recent experience at the top level which would aid their cause.
