Championship Football Betting Guide

Andy

The Championship returns to action and as with the other leagues, it will be a strange atmosphere where some will start quickly and others more cautious.

Saturday 20th June 2020

Fulham v Brentford

There have been nine recent meetings today at this level and Brentford have had the better with five wins and three draws, those three draws were the last three head to head at Craven Cottage which finished 1-1, 1-1 and 2-2. Five of the nine games were Over 2.5 goals so no strong stat there. The two sit third and fourth so a win would be vital, but neither side will want to lose, with Forest right on their tails. Both teams to score at 1.73 is a fair angle or you could Lay Fulham at 2.70 with preference for the former.

Fulham 46% Over 2.5 goals   16% Over 3.5 goals

Brentford 49% Over 2.5 goals   32% Over 3.5 goals

West Brom v Birmingham

A local derby with no crowd so the atmosphere will be strange. West Brom look nailed on for promotion provided the break has not affected them. There have only been three recent meetings today with West Brom winning the last two by 3-2 and a 1-1 draw at St Andrews. Birmingham are not safe from a relegation battle, but a couple of wins should see them stay up, although they will find easier games ahead than this one. Bilic will have The Baggies fired up, so try West Brom -1 on the handicap at 2.60.

West Brom 43% Over 2.5 goals   27% Over 3.5 goals

Birmingham 49% Over 2.5 goals   27% Over 3.5 goals

Sheff Wed v Nottm Forest

This game has plenty of strong statistics and it is not good for Forest as they push Fulham and Brentford for third place. The last eight head to head were all Over 2.5 goals and there has been no draw in the last eleven head to head. The strongest stat is that Sheff Wed have won nine of the last ten head to head an appear to be a bit of a bogey side for Forest. Either Lay Forest at 2.80 or Over 2.5 goals at 2.00 with preference for the latter.

Sheff Wed 49% Over 2.5 goals   27% Over 3.5 goals

Nottm Forest 43% Over 2.5 goals   22% Over 3.5 goals

Blackburn v Bristol City

Six of the last eight recent head to head finished Under 2.5 goals including three of the four games at Ewood Park. Those stats suggest a tight game but on this seasons form, it is hard to go against goals. Both teams to score at 1.80 appeals as the best option here, although I could not put anyone off Blackburn at home at 2.25.

Blackburn 51% Over 2.5 goals   24% Over 3.5 goals

Bristol City 57% Over 2.5 goals   32% Over 3.5 goals

Hull v Charlton

This is an old fashioned six-pointer with the two teams fighting relegation. It is possibly more important for Hull being at home, but with no crowds that advantage may be nullified. Charlton’s squad may be affected by their main goalscorer Lyle Taylor now refusing to play and they may struggle to find goals. Only three recent head to head with Hull winning at home 6-0 and the games at The Valley ending 2-2 and 2-1. Hull have been well backed into 2.20 which is a little short, so Over 2.5 goals at 1.85 looks the trading angle here.

Hull 65% Over 2.5 goals   32% Over 3.5 goals

Charlton 59% Over 2.5 goals   35% Over 3.5 goals

Sunday 21st June 2020

Cardiff v Leeds

Five of the last eight head to head have been away wins, which is good news for Leeds as they look to consolidate their top place position. The last three head to head were all Over 3.5 goals. A lot may depend on Leeds players frame of mind after knowing the West Brom result from the day before. The safest play, based on this seasons form, is Under 2.5 goals at 2.00 with a view to trading out.

Cardiff 51% Over 2.5 goals   30% Over 3.5 goals

Leeds 30% Over 2.5 goals   16% Over 3.5 goals
