Three games played and things have settled down a bit.

With three games gone of the football season, things have settled down a little bit and some teams have shown themselves to be stronger than others already. Disappointment of the season so far has to be Aston Villa who I really thought would start off with a bang but so far have been a damp squib. Wolves and Middlesbrough look as though they will be at the top this season and Ipswich have been a surprise package as they have won all three so far after an horrific loss in a pre-season friendly to Charlton by 6-1.

As a result of this I have found it very difficult to recommend anything really solid this week and we may just have to try a small multiple.

Friday 18th Burton v Birmingham

Only two previous meetings today and Burton won both 2-0 and if you fancy that again it is available at around 14/1. Burton sit bottom with no points and Birmingham should win but not for me at 2.60 (8/5)

Saturday 19th Sheff Utd v Barnsley

A local derby and those games tend to be tight even when one team is clearly stronger. All four recent meetings today in League One were Under 2.5 goals but that looks risky on the three games played so far this season. If pushed to have a bet I would lean towards the draw.

Saturday 19th Bolton v Derby

In the last eight meetings today Bolton have won just once but four of the games were draws. For those who like Unders this looks a possible opportunity as neither have been prolific this season and have not looked too adventurous either.

Saturday 19th Ipswich v Brentford

Six recent meetings today have seen three draws and two Brentford wins but Ipswich have started brilliantly and will be a tough nut to crack. Two of the three games in Ipswich ended 1-1. Both teams to score looks a real player.

Saturday 18th Nottingham Forest v Middlesbrough

Fifth against fourth and this has the potential to be a cracker but is a difficult one to unravel. Ten recent meetings today has seen five Under and five Over and Boro have won four, Forest three and three draws. Safest option here appears to be both teams to score.

Saturday 18th Wolves v Cardiff

The game of the weekend with second taking on the leaders and on the evidence seen in the three games so far, we may have a real tough encounter. Cardiff are yet to concede and both have scored six in their three games. Can the visitors defence hold strong again or will the new Wolves attacking options get the better of them. In the last eight head to head there has not been a drawn game and five of the eight have gone Over 2.5 goals, three of four at Wolves. The odds for Over 2.5 goals are around 2.10 (11/10) and that is a little bit of value as on recent evidence it should be odds on but I am a little worried that Wolves may take a while to break Cardiff down.

Advice

Not really confident about much this weekend and it is a long season and we are ahead so far. Let’s try a small double on Both Teams To Score in Ipswich v Brentford and Nottingham Forest v Middlesbrough, which pays around about 2.60 (8/5) depending on who you place it with.
